The Monaco Classic Week trophee celebrate excellence and innovation in the world of classic yachting. Each trophy is a prestigious recognition of the skills, passion and dedication of the participants.
Under the patronage of Monaco Marine, this prize recognises preservation of maritime heritage and contributes to perpetuating the unique and invaluable craftsmanship required. The Jury comprises experts in yachting history, who assess each boat based on respect for the original plans and materials, and the quality of the restoration.
Organised under the patronage of BMW and chaired by Allegra Gucci, the Jury of artists and well known personalities assess the beauty of the boat’s lines, conduct of the crew and respect for naval etiquette, as the boats pass by in front of them in a parade.
As well as the racing and powerboat events, Monaco Classic Week showcases heritage and the inimitable Art de Vivre la Mer lifestyle at sea through its La Belle Classe Restoration prize and Elegance Contest. Crews compete before a jury of experts in a spirit of friendly rivalry. The coveted Monaco Classic Week Trophy, chaired by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston , is presented to the boat with the best results in these two contests.
Knighted in 1995, voted three times YJA Yachtsman of the Year in the UK and ‘Personnalité de la Mer’ during Monaco Classic Week 2013, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston is an iconic figure in the sailing world. Born 1939 in Putney, he grew up on the Wirral Peninsular and made history in 1969 as the first man to complete a solo non-stop circumnavigation of the world on Suhaili. A sailor who never stops, he has left his mark on major events from the Jules-Verne Trophy won with Peter Blake in 1994 to the Route du Rhum 2014 when he finished 3rd at the age of 75.
