An Exceptional Fleet: Living Maritime Heritage

Classic Sailing Yachts

Classic sailing yachts form the event’s main category, bringing together exceptional sailing vessels. This category includes many centenarian yachts, the last witnesses of the golden age of yachting in the early 20th century. Among the iconic vessels that have taken part in previous editions are pioneers from the late 19th century such as Lulu (1897), Kismet (1898), Black Swan (1899), Sky (1890) and Tigris (1899).

Vintage Motor Yachts

Vintage motor yachts regularly take part in the event, representing the excellence of historic motor yachting. The era of steam applied to leisure navigation began around 1870, producing some of the most magnificent achievements in naval architecture. The motor yacht gradually replaced this era, with both technical and aesthetic developments before and after the First World War, continuing through to the present day with the first experiments in hybrid propulsion.

Motorboats – Elegance and Performance

Classic motorboats form an exceptional category within the event, including iconic models such as Riva and Chris-Craft, symbols of timeless elegance. Monaco is the birthplace of powerboating, having hosted its first international motorboat meetings as early as 1904. Visionary industrialists and daring sailors gathered there to push the limits of speed. These boats, true objects of artisanal luxury, became emblematic of nautical refinement. Chris-Craft and Riva continue this timeless elegance, offering a unique spectacle from the golden age of yachting.

Dinghies 12' – Legendary Small Sailing Boats

The Dinghies 12′ bring a distinctive touch of charm and tradition to the event. These small wooden sailing boats embody timeless elegance and exceptional manoeuvrability, offering a captivating spectacle where sailors’ skill takes centre stage.

At sea, Monaco Classic Week offers spectacular competitions showcasing the beauty and skill of classic vessels: • Regattas for classic sailing yachts – Sailing according to authentic traditions • Dead reckoning navigation for motor yachts – Using historic navigation methods • Endurance and manoeuvrability trials for motorboats – Testing capability and performance

Reviving the Spirit of 20th-Century Competitions

All these races revive the atmosphere and spirit of nautical competitions from the early 20th century, a time when speed and innovation were at the heart of global maritime gatherings. The crews thus continue the traditions of sporting competition and excellence established by their predecessors.
