S/Y THE LADY ANNE
Year: 1912
Type of boat: 15 M JI
Country: Scotland
Length (LOD): 19.27 m
Architect: William Fife III
The Lady Anne belongs to the same 15-Meter International Class as Tuiga. Unfortunately, she is severely penalised by the rating on account of the carbon-fibre reinforcements in her mast and other spars, which make them stronger but also stiffer, thus improving her performance. This explains why, although The Lady Anne may cross the finishing line first, it is often Tuiga that collects an award! Built to recover the 15 Meter Class trophy, won in 1911 by a German boat, The Lady Anne lost to the Nicholson yacht Istria. She then suffered mixed fortunes: she raced with a marconi rig in the 1920s; was requisitioned, altered into a ketch and used for munitions transport during the Second World War, and her lead keel recovered for the war effort was replaced by a steel one. After some years in Spain she was found in the Hamble River, near Southampton, and totally restored. She is a superb boat and beautifully balanced; further proof that Fife built both for strength and beauty!
